Make money reading

(Yes, you read that right.)

What does that mean?

It means what we said: you can make money by reading and commenting on StoryForge. $1 per Helpful comment, to be exact.

What counts as a Helpful comment?

It depends on the people voting. A comment counts as Helpful if the author of the work says so. It also counts as Helpful if at least two strangers say it is.

How do I get paid?

When you earn $20, you can connect your bank account via Stripe. StoryForge won’t see your info.

Wait, but I’m a writer. Can I get paid too?

Not as a writer, but YES as a reader. Remember, on StoryForge you can switch between both roles. Writers who want more feedback on their stories pay $2 per Helpful comment.

What if it’s NOT helpful, though? Do I still have to pay?

If a comment on your work was marked Helpful, but you disagree, you can ask our team to review it. If they agree that it wasn’t Helpful, you get your money back. The reviewers’ decision is final.

How long does a story count as Paid?

A story counts as Paid for one month. If you get fewer comments than you paid for, you get the money from missing comments back. If you get more comments than you paid for, you won’t pay extra. Once you get all the Helpful comments you paid for, your story stops counting as a Paid Story.

Will my money stay there forever until I get $20?

Holding onto your money forever is called “escrow”, and laws about it are very complicated. We can hold your money for a full year before it goes to StoryForge. Every time you make more money, we restart the timer. We’ll make sure to send you plenty of reminders before it goes away so you can keep what you worked hard for.

What’s the catch?

There are two.

  1. We can’t promise you’ll be paid for every good comment you leave. Well-written, respectful comments will have a better chance of getting picked!

  2. You don’t get your money until you’ve earned $20. That’s 20 Helpful comments. Stripe fees are very high for small purchases. If we don’t do it this way, StoryForge doesn’t get paid and neither do you.
