The Challenges of Publishing a Book

A book laying open with a series of pages folded over

If you ask anyone “Is it hard to publish a book?” and they tell you anything other than “Yes”, they’re out of their mind. Everyone wants to write (and should write) a book but everyone underestimates how hard it is to get published. We’ve previously gone into some of the challenges of the publishing industry, the chances of getting a book published, and how to publish a book but there’s so much more than that to writing a book.

First, there’s the idea. That’s the golden ticket to getting started and sometimes, the easiest part of writing a book. Can anyone write a book? Absolutely, if they have an idea for one. The hard part is what comes next. The average adult novel has between 70,000 and 120,000 words in it. YA novels are going to have less than that but still more than 50,000. At the end of this sentence, you’ll have read 158 words. You’d need to type at least 300 times as many. So how hard is it to get a book published? That’s not the question you should be asking yourself just yet.

What you should be asking yourself is “Do I have a good system set up to succeed?”. It takes time, dedication, and determination to write a book. You can absolutely do it though! StoryForge is built on the idea that authors need community and community is what we have! We have over 4000 users at this time who are all readers and writers, just like you! You’ll have Writers’ Circles where you can chat with likeminded members and get their opinions and feedback. We also have the ability to create an “Ask” which is shared with the entire community where you can request specific feedback from people. Very cool!

StoryForge is also the answer to “Can anyone write a book and publish it?”. We’re still in Beta and working through the details but those people that want to will have a path to publication! You’ll be able to publish your works through StoryForge or if you feel like you want to try your hand with one of the other publishing companies, you can take your work to them instead.

So the next time you ask yourself Can I write my own book and publish it? The answer is yes.

Yes, you can.

Yes, you should.

And if you want us to, StoryForge is here to help.
